Since its inception in 1983, The Friends Committee of the Fort Tryon Park Trust has been known primarily for its beautification and cleanup efforts. While this is still a strong focus for us, it's not all. We also have
  • Planted thousands of bulbs, including daffodils from the city-wide, post 9/11 Daffodil Project.
  • Transformed the subway terrace, and are restoring the iron fence. Now this dark and litter-strewn corner of the park is a colorful spot that heartens commuters and welcomes ping-pong and volleyball players.
  • Helped seed four lawns in the park.
  • Helped get the much-needed New Leaf Cafe into the park.
  • Installed two tire-swings in the Jacob Javits Playground.
  • Funded a variety of tools and equipment for the park and Heather Garden, including water-conserving soaker-type watering hoses.
  • Published acclaimed quarterly newsletter "The Fort Tryon Park Gazette".
  • Produced and sold two series of beautiful note cards, with photos contributed by local photographers .
  • Sponsored and co-sponsored park events including Earth Day Celebrations and 9/11 commemorative events.
  • Joined forces with other community groups to champion park rights and funding.
  • Worked with the Parks department in implementing the Heather Garden Endowment.
  • Sponsored free Sunset Yoga classes. (Summertime)
  • Sponsor free Fitness Walks. (year-round)
  • Co-Sponsored annual fundraisers, "A Toast To Fort Tryon Park" &"Pancakes in the Park.
  • Published "Let's Get Moving" - A fitness guide to Fort Tryon Park.
  • Conducted a survey of over 400 Park users.
